The Lord of the Merciful Death Sanctuary |
|
Town rich in religious faith, they have the Sanctuary of The Lord of the Merciful Death which image was made by two prestigious Ecuadorian artists, sculptor Diego Robles and painter Luis de Rivera.
The crucifix of this Lord arrived to the place in a curious way when a storm forced the travelers carrying it to stop and stay at this place. This was taken as a signal and, in 1749, missioner Fernando ordered to build the temple to honor this image.
In the new church you can appreciate pieces of Colonial Art like the Retablo Mayor, built 200 hundred years ago. It was originally covered in gold but only the wood carving is shown with other pieces sculpt during the colony.
For all this Yangana is a place worth because of its enchanting way to keep us in the historical past full of myths, legends and traditions. |
