Malacatos is a mandatory path to Vilcabamba, so they have the same transport service like the buses coming from Loja Terminal, less than a dollar and 40 minutes from it. Also Taxi Rutas, which terminal is located in Loja at Pio Jaramillo Ave. in Loja, fill up with 5 passengers for $1 to Malacatos in 30 minutes. Renting a car with chauffer is about $15 ($25 round trip)
Malacatos does not offer many hosting places. Prices start from $5 to $7 for hostels and $20 for a hotel. Some hotels are not near town.
There are no banks or ATM’s in Malacatos so; any transaction must be done in Loja.
As it is a small town, means no problem to move from place to place on the white trucks working as taxis, the same ones that offer long distance and airport service as well.
Hospital in Vilcabamba and pharmacies are commonly used by Malacatos dwellers.
There are pay phone booths for local and long distance calls and Porta cell phones too..
