The Grindings and “Spirits” |
|
The traditional Grindings are the most attractive features of town, Agustinos missionaries brought the first “trapiches”(Spanish device for making spirits) from Castilla and turned to be a mayor economic activity in the area. Visiting the grindings you can appreciate the process of the products derived from sugar cane like “panela” (squared blocks used as a sweetener), “guarapo” (the juice) and “agua ardiente” (the most appreciated local liquor in the south)
Aquí podemos disfrutar de un refrescante “guarapo” jugo de caña, mientras se observa como trabajan los trapiches para su extracción. Sí el visitante desea lo puede acompañar con un poquito de “punta” que es aguardiente de caña.
It’s very common to walk around town and see locals working on these and many other products which they transport from place to place on monkey back loads. “Aguardiente” commonly named “punta” is obtained through artisan techniques and 6 hours of hard work to distil the prime liquor after boiling the “guarapo”. The precious result is highly demanded in different parts of the province and the rest of the country as well. |
